Ownership
Patrick Grant bought the failing Blackburn manufacturer Cookson & Clegg with his sister Victoria in 2015, then launched Community Clothing by Kickstarter in March 2016. By 2023 the network reached 45 factories employing roughly 2,000 people.
Why Approved
The mechanism inverted: margin deliberately sacrificed to fill slack UK factory capacity and create skilled work. The company publishes hours of work created, 342,000-plus by end of 2023.
Reversibility
What would change our verdict
Outside investment that pushes production offshore or repositions it as a premium heritage label.
