Ownership

Founded by David Wolfe and Jamie Diamonstein in Virginia Beach. Cerberus Capital Management built the 3Z platform on Brooklyn Bedding and Helix Sleep in October 2021, and 3Z bought Leesa on 15 March 2023, its third acquisition in a year after Bear and Nolah. Southerland followed in December 2024.

Why Avoid

A PE-sponsored rollup: seven-plus brands on shared Phoenix lines, exit-driven ownership, interchangeable-brand economics. The counterpoint is real Brooklyn Bedding factory heritage and genuine vertical integration. That improves the product floor and changes nothing about the ownership mechanism. Your Mattress Got Worse On Purpose

The world's largest mattress manufacturer just bought America's largest mattress retailer for $4 billion. The FTC voted 5-0 to block it. A federal judge agreed the merger would let the manufacturer push rivals off the retailer's showroom floor, then approved it anyway. 75% of that floor is now contractually permitted to be the manufacturer's own brands. The same company sells the same Sealy mattress under four different names at four different stores so you can't comparison shop, and writes 20-year warranties designed to void if you stain them.
