Ownership
Sold through a private equity chain to KKR, which had also acquired the tool division from Hitachi (the Hitachi Koki deal). KKR retained the brand name for one year and rebranded to HiKoki globally. Sister brand Metabo HPT exists as the US-market brand.
Why Former Great
The original Metabo (German metalworking specialist) effectively no longer exists as an independent brand. Pre-KKR product is still well-regarded; current output operates under the HiKoki/Metabo HPT banner.
