Ownership
Taylor Brands bought the names and IP, but not the factory, after Imperial Schrade closed in 2004. Smith & Wesson bought Taylor Brands in 2016 for $85 million, and the brands went to American Outdoor Brands in the 2020 spin-off. American Outdoor Brands still lists Schrade among its brands (November 2026).
Why Watchlist
Schrade is marketed on a 1904 founding, and a partner quoted in a 2023 owner release said "For over 130 years, Schrade knives have earned the trust of consumers." The Ellenville, New York factory closed in 2004 and production moved overseas. The names have since been held by Taylor Brands, Smith & Wesson and American Outdoor Brands.
