Why Avoid

Templeton Rye was founded in 2006. Its homepage says "What began in Templeton, Iowa way back during Prohibition", and its Single Barrel page is headed "Built On Bootlegging Roots". In 2015 Templeton settled class actions over its labeling for up to $2.5 million and agreed to add "Distilled in Indiana" to labels and drop "Prohibition Era Recipe"; its rye had been distilled by MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The first rye distilled at its own Iowa distillery, the Single Barrel, was released in October 2025.
