Ownership
The original company filed for bankruptcy in 1976 and closed in 1977. Oshman's bought the name in 1978 and The Limited bought it in 1988, moving it to Ohio; it has been independent and public since 1996 to 1998.

The About page dates the company to David Abercrombie in 1892 and says it is "Inspired by our 130-year history". Its timeline runs from the 1950s and 1960s to the 1990s and does not mention the 1977 closure or the sales of the name.
