Founded 2015 in Hoboken, NJ by Jeff D'Andrea, Dan D'Andrea, Jay Decker, and Mark Abrials. Merged with Brentwood Home in 2018 to form Avocado Green Brands. CEO Vy Nguyen has publicly stated the company has explicitly rejected outside growth equity, with founder quoted in industry press: "Sweat equity, not private equity." Genuinely independent and founder-led with documented PE rejection. However: scale concerns (now one of the largest online mattress brands in the US), 2022 NLRB labor complaint at California factory regarding union activity, and ongoing scrutiny over the gap between marketing claims and verifiable supply chain at scale. Sits closer to Approved than to Avoid but the trajectory needs monitoring.
