Ownership
Founded 1881 in Sealy, Texas by Daniel Haynes. Acquired by Tempur-Pedic in 2012 for $1.3 billion, forming Tempur Sealy International (NYSE: TPX). Now part of the three-brand premium portfolio (with Tempur-Pedic and Stearns & Foster) that, combined with Mattress Firm (acquired February 2025), controls the largest vertical integration in the mattress industry.
Why Avoid
Documented practice of selling the same Posturepedic Elite Hybrid model under at least eight retailer-specific names (Albany, Brenham, High Point, Cranford Grove, Broad Knoll, Dakota Ridge, Amberley Way, Monaghan) to prevent comparison shopping. Now sister-brand to Tempur-Pedic and Stearns & Foster with Mattress Firm as captive retailer.
Reversibility
What would change our verdict
Divestiture from Tempur Sealy. Public retraction of the model-name shell game practice. End of the vertical integration with Mattress Firm.
