Ownership
Wolverine World Wide bought Sebago in 2003 and ended Maine production within a year. Italy's BasicNet (Kappa, Superga, K-Way) has owned it since July 2017.
Why Avoid
The description on Sebago's 80th-anniversary page, the text shown in search results, says the brand has been "made in the USA since 1946". Production in Westbrook, Maine ended in 2004, and Sebago's own About page says its shoes are made by companies in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and El Salvador, with a few in Southeast Asia. Its US-made range is an anniversary capsule of two Docksides models and four leather accessories. Italy's BasicNet has owned the brand since 2017.
Reversibility
What would change our verdict
The "since 1946" line is removed or limited to the capsule, and every product page states country of origin.
