Ownership

Vera Wang launched her business in 1990 with the opening of her flagship bridal salon at the Carlyle Hotel in New York. She had previously been an editor at Vogue and design director at Ralph Lauren. The brand expanded to ready-to-wear in 2000 and grew via numerous licensing agreements (apparel at Kohl's, jewelry at Jared, fragrance, home, and others) into a $700 million annual retail business. WHP Global announced an agreement to acquire the IP in December 2024 and closed the deal January 2025 (financial terms undisclosed). Wang continues as Founder and Chief Creative Officer and became a WHP shareholder. In June 2025 WHP signed Batra Group to a license for advanced contemporary ready-to-wear in the UK and Europe (debut planned for fall 2026, launching in Vera Wang showrooms in London and Paris).

Why Avoid

A 35-year self-financed business sold to a brand licensing firm. WHP describes the acquisition as anchoring a new "premium fashion vertical" alongside rag & bone, Joe's Jeans, and G-Star. The first major action under WHP ownership was signing a new licensee (Batra Group) for the UK/Europe.
